RUTLAND, Vt.- The Green Mountain
College men's tennis program honored its seniors before the match. The
Eagles could not clinch the win on senior day, however, as they were
defeated by MCLA, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon at Mac-Sam Tennis. The win
avenged an earlier loss to GMC for MCLA as it improved to 3-2 in the NAC
and 3-5 overall. The Eagles fell to 4-6 overall and are 0-4 in the
conference.
GMC struggled out of the gates in the rematch as they dropped all three doubles matches. Andrew Woodman and Kyle Walz and the pairing of Eric Wade and Alex Reedy each suffered 8-2 losses in the second and third slots. The first flight doubles result saw the duo of Connor Braden and Truman Cressey fall 9-8 (7-4 tiebreak) to put the Eagles down 3-0 heading into singles.
Braden (6-1, 6-2) and Cressey (6-4, 7-5) would get a bit of revenge
as they took the first two singles flights in straight sets. MCLA would
have the answer though as they would claim the final four singles
matches to secure the win.
The Eagles close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of matches against Johnson on Saturday and Lyndon on Sunday.
