Spartans Shut Out Lyndon 16-0

CASTLETON, Vt. – Freshmen Romello Lindsey and Brandon Myron combined to produce a shutout in net and the Castleton offense was effective on the way to a 16-0 victory over Lyndon on Wednesday afternoon.

The duo made eight saves, preserving the team's first shutout of the year. Lindsey stopped two shots in the first half to earn his first collegiate victory while Myron came up with six saves in the final 30 minutes of action.

Castleton had 45 shots on the afternoon and picked up 56 ground balls to improve to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Lyndon recorded 19 shots and picked up 19 ground balls as it dropped to 0-6 and 0-3 in conference action.

The Spartans had 12 different players score in the contest, led by Sam Siegel with three goals and
five ground balls. Zach Devoid and Ryan Stone each recorded two goals. Kyle Lutinski dished off three assists while picking up four ground balls. Peyton Faasse picked up six ground balls and won 7 of 9 faceoffs.

For the Hornets, Justin Mosher had three shots to go with four ground balls. Marshall Blackman added two caused turnovers. Shane Morin took the loss in net as he allowed 10 goals while making nine saves in 30 minutes. Marcus Bessette played the second half and stopped nine shots while giving up six goals.

Castleton broke through with 10:52 left in the first quarter on a goal by Jason Sedell. Siegel followed with a goal less than three minutes later and Isaac Devoid pushed the Spartan lead to 3-0 later in the quarter.

Nik Rancourt extended the advantage to four goals 1:09 into the second and Castleton led 7-0 midway through the period. Connor Kelly, Stone and Tom Pardew each scored once in the final four minutes of the period to lead 10-0 at the half.

The Spartans scored three times in the opening 1:09 of the third quarter for a 13-0 advantage and in the fourth, Colin Clark, Matt Levins and Stone provided the final 16-0 margin.

Castleton returns to action on Saturday when the team travels to play Husson at 1 pm.
