HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 36 Dartmouth men’s tennis defeated Brown, 6-1, on Friday. Seniors Dovydas Sakinis and Brendan Tannenbaum were playing at the Boss Tennis Center for the final time in their careers, ending the day with nothing but victories.
The Big Green improved to 16-8 overall and 4-1 in Ivy League play, while the Bears fell to 8-17 and 0-5.
“Our doubles set a good tone again today,” head coach Chris Drake
said after the match. “We jumped out to early leads on all three courts
and were able to finish a couple of the sets rather quickly. We got a
few quick first set victories and two very important first set
tiebreakers to pull away at that point. I was pleased that in so many
cases, we played our best tennis in the second sets to close out
matches.”
Dartmouth won the first point with victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions. The 70th-ranked pairing of junior George Wall and Tannenbaum had a 6-0 win at the top spot, while junior Max Schmidt and freshman Roko Glasnovic had a 6-1 win at No. 2. At the No. 3 position, Sakinis and sophomore Max Fliegner were leading, 4-3, at No. 3 when the match went unfinished.
Sophomore Ciro Riccardi
added one more point for the Green with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Gregory
Garcia at the No. 2 singles position. Brown got one of its own at the
No. 5 position, but that proved to be the only point the Bears would
get. Four straight wins for Dartmouth – including the clinch by freshman
Eddie Grabill at the No. 6 position – wrapped up the match swiftly.
On Sunday, the Big Green will head to Connecticut to take on Yale.
