CASTLETON, Vt. - The Colby-Sawyer
women's lacrosse team had its four-game winning streak snapped on
Wednesday night after a 15-6 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) loss at
Castleton.
The Chargers fall to 4-5 overall and suffer their first conference loss
to drop to 3-1. Colby-Sawyer will look to rebound on Saturday at home
against Thomas College. Castleton improves to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the
NAC.
After trailing 9-1 at halftime, the Chargers played a near even game
with the Spartans in the second half with just a one goal discrepency,
6-5.
Sara Berry led the Chargers with a hat trick, while Bailey Starr, Nicole Lavigne and Caitlyn Whearty
added a goal apiece. Berry also had four ground balls and three draw controls. Starr collected a game best six draw controls.
Brianna MacKay scored on each of her first six shots and ended the game
with seven goals on nine shots. The final tally was the 100th of her
career, becoming just the 11th player in program history to reach that
milestone. She also picked up four ground balls in the contest. Brandi
Whittemore had two goals, two assists, two ground balls and two caused
turnovers for the Spartans. Chantel Wilkin added one goal and one
assist.
Castleton had two goalies split time in net. Meghan Els played the first
half and allowed one goal with four saves. Rachel Bombardier gave up
five second half goals and made a pair of saves. Meghan Castellano made seven stops for the Chargers.
