ITHACA, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women’s lacrosse team
dropped an Ivy League road game at Cornell, 12-5, Saturday afternoon
inside Schoellkopf Field.
The loss drops the Big Green to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in conference
play, while the Big Red continue their best start in program history,
improving to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in conference games with the win.
In all, five different players registered goals for the Big Green with Taryn Deck’s three points leading
the team in total scoring. Deck, Courtney Weisse, Larson Bennett, Campbell Brewer and Campbell Probert
all factored into the scoring with tallies. Deck’s two assists on goals
from Probert and Larson were the only two helpers of the game for the
Green and White.
Cornell took its 6-3 lead at halftime and built on it early in the
second with the first four goals of the frame. Bennett and Deck
responded to give the Dartmouth sideline life again, but the home team’s
defense shut down the Big Green attack for the final 16:10 of play,
while the offense netted another three for the 12-5 win.
Dartmouth continued its trend of creating possession with a 10-8 edge
in draw controls, but 17 turnovers, including eight unforced, was too
much to overcome when tying to mount a comeback bid.
Cornell had two goals apiece from four players: Joey Coffry, Emily
Tripodi, Amie Dickson and Catherine Ellis. Ellis led the team in scoring
with five points as she also dished out a trio of assists, besting
Dickson’s four-point day.
Freshman goalkeeper Charlotte Wahle stopped seven shots in the losing effort, while Cornell’s Renne Poullott had five.
Dartmouth is back on the field Tuesday afternoon, visiting No. 8 Boston College.
