With the win, the Big Green improved to 6-6 overall, 2-3 in the Ivy and 5-0 at home this season, while the loss drops the Bulldogs to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in Ancient Eight play.
“The goal today was to put together a complete game, a full 60 minutes of action and not just a good first half or a good second half,” head coach Amy Patton said. “At halftime, I told them we were starting a new game and to forget what we had done in the first half.”
Senior Jaclyn Leto once again led the team in scoring, netting four and going over 40 goals in a
season for the second time in her career. Her 42 goals are nine more than the next closest Ivy player to this point and one off her career high set last season with three games still remaining on the schedule.
Leto also added an assist for a five-point outing. In doing so, Leto tied Kat Collins ’11 for ninth in program history with 163 career points.
Not to be completely outdone, freshman Elizabeth Mastrio scored three goals for the second straight game, tying her career high set against Boston College on Tuesday.
Yale held a 2-1 lead midway through the first half until Leto scored her second and third goals of the afternoon two minutes apart to take a one-goal edge the Big Green would never relinquish.
Up 5-2 at the half, Dartmouth continued to pressure, scoring five more times in the final frame, while holding the Elis to just five in the entire 60 minutes.
In addition to Leto and Mastrio, the home team got goals from Kierra Sweeney, Campbell Probert and Taryn Deck. Courtney Weisse dished out a pair of assists, the only player on either side with multiple helpers.
Yale got two goals apiece from Lauren Wackerle and Kiwi Comizio with the latter adding an assist for a team-high three points.
Freshman goalkeeper Charlotte Wahle was at the top of her game, stopping 10 shots to tie her young career high as she was the anchor of the Big Green defense that held the opposition to the second-lowest goals against figure this spring.
Possession was once again key as Dartmouth held an 11-6 edge in shots and was a perfect 13-for-13 on clear attempts.
“We play a top-eight schedule in the country,” Patton continued. “To go up against some of the best teams in the nation, we have learned how to move the ball up the field and that has given us confidence. We then use that confidence in games like this one, an Ivy opponent at home where we know we need a win to put ourselves in a better position for a postseason spot.”
Dartmouth hosts Albany on Monday at 3 p.m. in the final non-conference game of the regular season.
