Keene State Earns LEC Split With Rhode Island College

KEENE, N.H.-- Junior designated hitter Trevor Chapin delivered a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Keene State College baseball team a 2-1 win over Rhode Island College in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader at Owl Athletic Complex.  The Anchormen won the second game, 5-3.

How It Happened - Game One

• The game was a pitcher's duel, lasting just 2:40 despite going 11 innings.  KSC starter Cody Dube went eight innings, striking out a career high 11 and walking nine, while RIC starter Dylan Pingitore was nearly as efficient, notching seven strikouts with one walk in eight innings.
• The Anchormen opened the scoring when Edward Apice led off the second inning with a single to center, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on Scott Linnane's single up the middle.  That would be it for the Anchormen, as Dube set down RIC in order in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before allowing a hit in the seventh.
• Keene State tied the game in the sixth when Billy Hartmann drew a one out walk, and a balk by Pingitore moved him to second base.  Chapin singled through the left side to bring Hartmann around.
• The Owls won it in the 11th, as Christian Bourgea singled through the right side with two out, and Chapin slammed a single to deep right field to score Bourgea standing up for the win.  
• Eddie Dionne earned the win (1-0) with three innings of one-hit relief.  Myles Levy (1-2) took the loss.

How It Happened - Game Two

• Keene State jumped on RIC starter PJ Watson for three runs in the first inning, but would not score again in a 5-3 loss.
• All nine batters came to the plate in the first for Keene State, as Hartmann singled and Bourgea and Chapin walked to load the bases.  Devin Springfield brought in the game's first run with a single to right field, and Vinny Parilla had an RBI fielder's choice and Dan Sarah an infield single to make it 3-0.
• The Anchormen pulled one back in the top of the third on Brad Douglas' sacrifice fly.  Apice doubled in a run in the top of the fourth and Tyler Rains hit a two run homer to give the Anchormen the lead.
• Douglas singled in another run in the top of the sixth after Gian Abbruzze had walked with two out.  
• The Owls' best chance to tie came in the eighth.  Parilla was hit by a pitch and went all the way to third on Connor Longley's single, but reliever Daniel Greaves struck out pinch hitter Austin Marino and Mac Struthers to end the threat.
• Levy came on for the ninth to set the Owls down in order and pick up the save.  Watson got the win (2-1) with seven innings of six hit work.  Alan Schiff (2-1) took the loss for KSC.  Keith Simpson pitched 4.2 innings of three hit relief.
